Conversations with a four year old

It was one of those wet winter days today which make you want to dive under the doona with a good book. As I was snuggling on the lounge with Connor I got talking about what I am going to do next year when he goes to school. Our conversation went a little like this...

Mummy - So who am I going to cuddle on rainy days next year when you are at school?

Connor - You'll have to cuddle Daddy

Mummy - But Daddy will be at work

Connor - You'll just have to go to work too

Mummy - Where should I work do you think?

Connor - You should work at Bi-Lo with Rachel and then she can cuddle you.

    >

I can only imagine how my sister will feel about me working in the supermarket with her and tracking her down for a snuggle LOL. I'm sure she won't really mind ;)

I am starting to think a lot about what next year will bring when my baby goes to school. I will be looking for some more permanent work and praying for one of those dream school hour jobs :) I am sure the right thing will come my way but it is so surreal to think all of my kids will be at school. So much to think about.

While I have you here, if you had some of these....

    Actually, lots of these...........

What would you do with them? It is time to think about cooking some of them because we are all a bit over eating them as is. What apple recipes do you recommend? Inspire me!

Love the wellie boots and your photo in black and white too, interesting read and all, thanks Kerryn. Hmmm Apples? I love to peal & core them, slice them up chunky put them with some brown sugar, butter, cinamon & maybe a splash of lemon juice and stew them to have with lovely thick home made custard.

      hugs

Love those wellies Kerryn - love your conversation with Connor too, how cute!

My favourite apple recipe is Apple Crumble - stewed apples topped with {3/4 cup each of rolled oats, raw sugar & plain flour, 1/2 cup of coconut, & 90g melted butter, all mixed together} - bake in the oven for about 1/2 hour at 180ºC & serve with custard or ice-cream - yum! (DD#1 actually asked for this to be her birthday cake a couple of years ago LOL!).

      Hugs,
      Pepper

      Hi,
found your wonderful blog through the EB newbies sewers group! Im a bit of a blog perve!

      Hmm the apples...well you could
      1. dry them in slices - great to snack on;
      2. make apples sauce (obviously!) you can use apple sauce in cake recipes as a sub for an ingredient (cant remember off the top of my head which one but its a good natural sugar)
      3. you could make chutney, apple jam - apples have a high level of pectin in them so you could add them to other fruits to make preserves or you can actually extract the pectin from apples to use with other preserves that dont have a high pectin level http://www.pickyourown.org/pectin.htm (hope that makes sense!!)
      4. going back to the drying thing - you could combine dried apples with cinnamon sticks etc to make little muslin baggies to hang around around the house - beautiful at this time of year with the cold weather...very earthy winter scent!

Of course you could also gorge yourselves on apple crumbles, pies and muffins!! Probably more what I would do

      xx Gilly
